Why is the Root Beer Rolex So Popular?

The Root Beer Rolex, named for its tan, brown and off-white colouring, is one of the brand’s more unique selections. Although the Root Beer watch from Rolex isn’t all that common among everyday watch wearers, it is quite popular among collectors – but why?

Aside from the interesting colouring, which is actually gold and bronze, the Root Beer watch from Rolex features a Jubilee or Oyster bracelet, and the dial features a “nipple” design. The actual name for the watch is the Rolesor GMT-Master ref. 1675/3, which is a line of Rolex watches that display a bicoloured bezel.

The Root Beer version just happens to have the gold and bronze makeup that gives it the appearance of a root beer mug. Additionally, the Root Beer version didn’t really hit its stride until Rolex released the GMT-Master II 16713 and GMT-Master II 126711CHNR timepieces.

Vintage Cool Aesthetic

Another reason the Root Beer watch from Rolex is so popular is that it recalls a vintage cool from the 1970s. The original watch was released in 1970, but the style and colouring of these watches were used throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Today’s collectors and even fashion-forward watch enthusiasts love the Root Beer watch from Rolex because the colour scheme matches the 70s aesthetic so well. It complements dress-casual fashion well, but it can also be worn with casual clothing for a night out with friends.

Relative Affordability

The Root Beer watch from Rolex is also among the brand’s more affordable options if you’re looking for a collectible piece. While some vintage Rolex watches can range into the tens of thousands of dollars, a Root Beer watch may cost less than $15,000. When combined with the unique aesthetic, this makes the Root Beer watch fairly popular among budget-conscious collectors.

Subdued Sparkle

Another reason the Root Beer watch is so popular is that it isn’t too flashy. There’s just enough sparkle to let others know you’re wearing a Rolex, but the shine isn’t overpowering or intimidating. This makes it a good choice for people who want to show off a Rolex without coming across as pretentious.

Guide to The Best Vintage Watches

A brand-new watch can make you feel like a million bucks, but there’s just something about vintage watches that newer timepieces can’t touch. Perhaps it’s the unique styling used in older timepieces, or the signs of wear on a vintage watch that adds character and charm. Whatever the case, vintage watches make for great collector’s items as well as unique fashion accessories.

If you’ve been looking at vintage watches for sale and want to know more, below is a brief, helpful guide to the best vintage watches:

Omega Seamaster

The Omega Seamaster series is a timepiece collection that oozes class without being obnoxious. In particular, Seamaster watches from the 1950s are of interest if you’re looking for vintage watches for sale that incorporate period-specific styles. A 1950s Seamaster features Breguet numerals that were popular then, and many of these watches also include rose-gold cases.

Pocket Watches

Pocket watches used to be considered incredible feats of engineering in timepiece manufacturing, and while the world has moved onto digital smartphones that can tell time and more, many watch collectors still keep an eye out for vintage pocket watches. The aesthetic appeal of a pocket watch is one of whimsy for a time gone by (no pun intended), but some pocket watches from famous watchmakers like Rolex can be quite valuable as well.

Submariner Big Crown

The Submariner watch series from Rolex has long been a favourite of timepiece collectors, but these watches portray a timeless elegance that appeals to fashion-conscious people as well. Perhaps this is why they’ve been worn in James Bond films and have also been lauded for their striking appearance.

The Submariner Big Crown is a version of the Rolex Submariner that is distinct in that it features a red pip at the 12 o’clock position and has no crown guards. These features make the watch easily identifiable in a crowd, but they also set the Submariner Big Crown apart from other Submariners when looking through a collection of Rolex watches. Depending on the condition of a vintage Submariner Big Crown, be prepared to pay because some older watches can be a bit on the pricey side.

How Much is a Rolex GMT Master Worth?

The GMT Master Rolex watch is one of the most popular pieces among watch collectors, but how much is the GMT Master Rolex worth? More importantly, is it worth it to spend a lot on a Rolex, let alone a GMT Master?

The truth is that watch values can rise and fall based on varying factors. The overall economy in an area, the number of watches available and the condition of a watch can all determine pricing for specific timepieces. Also, you may find differing prices when purchasing from a dealer versus buying from a private seller.

The Average Price Point for a Rolex GMT Master

The average price of a Rolex GMT Master usually falls around $10,000; however, some prices can hover around the $30,000 range. Of course, these are averages and do not take into account the various factors listed above. If you want to find prices in your area, your best bet is to check with a local watch dealer to see what their guides say and to check local inventory.

If you want to sell a Rolex GMT and are trying to find out its price, you may not get book value for your timepiece. This is especially true when selling to a dealer because the dealer has to add a markup to make a profit when the watch is sold in the future.

Is a Rolex GMT Master Worth It?

Whether you pay a relatively small amount or a lot for a Rolex GMT Master, determining whether the cost is worth it comes down to personal preference. For some collectors, finding a missing piece to add to their collections can be invaluable. For fashion-conscious timepiece enthusiasts, finding the right watch to match an outfit or event can be an experience no price tag can match.

If you do purchase a Rolex GMT Master, consider your future plans in your decision. If you plan to sell the watch in the future, look into how well your timepiece is expected to hold its value. This can help you determine whether buying the watch is worth it in the first place.

Why is Cartier Such a Prestigious Brand?

When it comes to luxury fashion, few names are as prestigious as Cartier. The designer is synonymous with opulence and produces some of the world’s finest jewelry, timepieces and fashion accessories. Most people have heard of Cartier, and the brand certainly has a reputation for being high-end, but you may be wondering why Cartier watches and other products from the world-famous brand are so expensive. Why is Cartier considered so prestigious?

Quality Workmanship

One reason often cited for Cartier’s prestige is the brand’s workmanship and attention to detail. Many people who swear by Cartier point out that the company’s watches, handbags and jewelry are designed to last a lifetime, and part of the cost ensures that each Cartier designer item is made to exacting standards.

While you can argue that brands with less prestige produce quality jewelry and timepieces as well, the skilled designers who partner with Cartier place a large focus on attention to detail. This can be seen in the craftsmanship of each Cartier piece, and it’s one reason why even royalty has considered Cartier a go-to brand throughout the years.

Rare Materials

Cartier has also developed a reputation for prestige due to its inclusion of high-quality precious metals and other materials in its designs. Many Cartier watches feature 18k gold, but platinum is also used often.

This not only adds real-world value to each Cartier piece but can also be seen as an investment. Precious metals tend to go up in value over time, and if you have a collector piece constructed using precious metals, the value only increases.

History

Cartier also has a long history in the jewelry and luxury timepiece markets. The brand got started in the mid-1800s, and since then, its name has become known throughout the world.

Based on sheer name recognition, Cartier has achieved a level of prestige that newer brands have not been able to match. The inclusion of fashion accessories like genuine leather handbags has only helped to boost Cartier’s reputation in the fashion world with time.

The History Behind the Batman Rolex

Fans of the famed comic book superhero Batman love collecting memorabilia from the character’s appearances, but there’s one Batman collectible that you may not be aware of: The Rolex 126710blnr, also known as the Batman Rolex.

This timepiece bears a likeness to the Caped Crusader due to its two-tone bezel featuring a blue and black theme. These colors are similar to the tones used in various portrayals of Batman over the years. Although modern Batman feature films tend to stick to black and various shades of gray, earlier Batman appearances used to mix dark blue and black as well as gray, white and yellow.

The GMT-Master II

Technically, the Rolex 126710blnr is a GMT-Master II reference model. This timepiece was first produced in 1954, but the Batman version was not released until 2013. The Batman Rolex was the first Rolex watch to feature a duo-tone Cerachrom bezel.

An additional rotating bezel is available on this timepiece to assist in telling the time in different time zones. The feature was added to aid pilots who often travel across time zones while working. The wearer can set their home timezone and then adjust the rotating time zone indicator based on where they are located at the moment.

High-Visibility Features

The watch was also designed with features for high visibility in low-light situations. Instead of relying merely on numbers around the dial, the Batman Rolex features large shapes that indicate the noon, 30-past and 45-past positions. At the 15-past position, a date window is made available. Large circles are also present on the dial to indicate various minute positions for a quick glance at the watch to tell the time.

Collectible Status

Although the Batman Rolex is not technically a Batman collectible in the strict sense, it is a sought-after piece by watch collectors. Some pieces can go for close to $20,000 depending on the condition, but many are available at lower prices. You will want to check with local watch dealers in your area to see local pricing and online watch dealers are also good resources to check for current pricing.
