Fans of the famed comic book superhero Batman love collecting memorabilia from the character’s appearances, but there’s one Batman collectible that you may not be aware of: The Rolex 126710blnr, also known as the Batman Rolex.
This timepiece bears a likeness to the Caped Crusader due to its two-tone bezel featuring a blue and black theme. These colors are similar to the tones used in various portrayals of Batman over the years. Although modern Batman feature films tend to stick to black and various shades of gray, earlier Batman appearances used to mix dark blue and black as well as gray, white and yellow.
The GMT-Master II
Technically, the Rolex 126710blnr is a GMT-Master II reference model. This timepiece was first produced in 1954, but the Batman version was not released until 2013. The Batman Rolex was the first Rolex watch to feature a duo-tone Cerachrom bezel.
An additional rotating bezel is available on this timepiece to assist in telling the time in different time zones. The feature was added to aid pilots who often travel across time zones while working. The wearer can set their home timezone and then adjust the rotating time zone indicator based on where they are located at the moment.
High-Visibility Features
The watch was also designed with features for high visibility in low-light situations. Instead of relying merely on numbers around the dial, the Batman Rolex features large shapes that indicate the noon, 30-past and 45-past positions. At the 15-past position, a date window is made available. Large circles are also present on the dial to indicate various minute positions for a quick glance at the watch to tell the time.
Collectible Status
Although the Batman Rolex is not technically a Batman collectible in the strict sense, it is a sought-after piece by watch collectors. Some pieces can go for close to $20,000 depending on the condition, but many are available at lower prices. You will want to check with local watch dealers in your area to see local pricing and online watch dealers are also good resources to check for current pricing.
